Have you heard of GreenGeeks?
If you’re a small business owner, then you probably have a website. If you have a website, then you’ve most likely dealt with a web host or two. (Or three!) Plus, if you’re reading this, the chances are high that you are looking for a new one.
Or just “researching.”
This post covers ten reasons why I love GreenGeeks web hosting for my small business. At the end of this article, I’ve added some links for additional info to help in your web host re/search.
Before we get started, I want to point out that UGH! Media and GreenGeeks are affiliates. However, I have tons of experience with them, am privy to their services and wholly flabbergasted by their amazing-ness since we switched.
Lets get to it!
10 Reasons to Consider GreenGeeks as Your New Web Host
1. They’re a completely green company!
GreenGeeks has a ton of web hosting, customer service, and eco-friendly awards, and that’s only the tip of the iceberg! For example, GreenGeeks has reduced its carbon footprint by operating as a fully distributed company. In other words, all employees are fully remote and so are ALL of their offices! To add, by using high-quality energy-efficient server hardware (which is state-of-the-art), they’ve become a 300% green company!
So how does one become “300% green”, you ask? Well, GreenGeek’s servers are powered by renewable energy and then offset by wind energy (credits)!
If you’re skeptical of the whole climate change thing or wondering how much pollution a single server produces each year here’s some food for thought:
Website hosting servers pull energy from the grid, most of that energy comes from fossil fuels. Each web hosting server produces 1390 pounds of CO2 each year! There are tens of millions of servers worldwide and growth in web hosting services is estimated to be greater than 400% each year for the foreseeable future.GreenGeeks – Going Green
I had to do a double-take and let it sink in that a single server CREATES 1390 lbs of CO2 annually. Like, seriously? Want to know something even more jarring?:
At current estimates, the airline industry contributes to 3.5% of global climate change. By 2050 the airline industry is expected to contribute to over 5% of global climate change. Information technology is expanding far more rapidly and should exceed 3.5% of global climate change by 2020 and most likely shall contribute 5% of global climate change far before 2050.GreenGeeks – Going Green
So long story short, GreenGeeks is environmentally friendly!
2. GreenGeeks customer service = 24/7/365
Now don’t get me wrong, most web hosts are available 24/7/365 because, well, websites don’t sleep!
The difference here is that GreenGeeks won’t waste your time by asking customers to “hold for 3-4 minutes while they investigate” (four times in a row) or a, “please wait 12-24 HOURS for the A-Record to propagate” when the request has no impact on such a thing, and your website is entirely down during that time. However, I digress.
What GreenGeeks will do is either solve your problem right then and there, or they’ll direct you to submit a (trackable) ticket to a specific department!
P.S. There is an area on the GreenGeeks dashboard to view the status of all current/past tickets. It’s magical.
3. They have a super helpful live chat feature
While on the topic of customer service, did I mention that GreenGeeks has an amazing live chat?
You won’t wait more than a couple of minutes to talk with someone. Plus, while waiting, you can see when the rep has read your message, AND even when they begin typing!
They also won’t waste your time with overtly chipper small (chat) talk. I mean, if that’s your thing, more power to ya. (My brain bandwidth has a small-talk threshold.)
4. Their customer service is on point
Again, I cannot emphasize enough on their fantastic customer service. It’s transparent, quick, friendly, and to the point. What more could you want?
Having to deal with multiple web hosts over the years, that is hard to come by.
Side note: this won’t take up one of the ten reasons, because I’ve added an 11th “bonus” reason below.
5. Web hosting that is streamlined, simplified and to the point
From migrating a website to submitting a help desk ticket, GreenGeeks has its processes on lockdown! I tout their love of transparency below, but when it comes to simplifying or fixing super complex issues (that are difficult to explain), they get it and always have a clear path to help you get to wherever.
In other words, anytime I had a question or something needed to get fixed; it usually was solved during the chat. If it couldn’t get resolved right then and there, it was within 24 hours. Unfortunately, I cannot say that about all of my previous web host experiences…
6. GreenGeeks digs transparency it and shows
Let’s be real; we can tell when a company puts on a front when trying to help you solve an issue. For example: when all of their answers are (complete crap) blanket statements.
The good news is that you won’t experience that at GreenGeeks because they back up their ethos/message with facts and follow through on everything. Plus, if they don’t know something, they won’t fake it. They’ll tell you that they need to figure it out and about how long it will take.
How can you beat that?
7. If something gets too complicated, they want to chat, email or talk
GreenGeeks has a ton of resources available to help customers step-by-step through different issues of varying levels of complexity. So if you have minimal, some, or even a lot of website experience, it doesn’t matter. They have tutorials and help you every step of the way.
Let’s face it, as small business owners, many of us aren’t comfortable with tech jargon or what in the heck is even happening when our website is down. The one thing that we usually do know is when something is “broke.”
In short, if an FAQ or step-by-step manual gets to be too much, don’t try to power through and break your site further. Instead, give them a call or open a chat and let them know what’s happening.
8. Site migration is super easy, fast, AND free
One thing that I’ve experienced (and dread) is a site migration.
Migrations can sometimes cost $200+ depending on the size of your website. In general, site migration fees can be difficult to determine as many web hosts usually have some sort of “surprise” a-la-carte item(s) that need to get added during the migration and are usually also necessary, but unexpected.
Guess what? Not with GreenGeeks because site migrations are free! They’ll do them for you, and even migrate email accounts if you have them with your site! Just make sure to let them know if you have email accounts before they start. They can go back if necessary, but being proactive has never hurt anyone.
9. Their web hosting prices are on point!
If you didn’t think things could get better, think again because GreenGeek’s pricing scale is competitive! Especially when you consider what is offered compared to some of the popular other website hosts.
It’s also important to note that disk space, bandwidth, and email accounts are unlimited on ALL THREE plans. Plus, hosting plans come with an option for CDN integration (it’s up to you if you want to use it, but be sure to give it a whirl if you want to improve upon website speed). Not only that but, there are nightly backups, a free SSL certificate, and even a site builder!
10. A 99.9% uptime guarantee!
Now if there’s anything else that I can attest to its that GreenGeeks has a 99.9% uptime guarantee and it’s legit!
I’ve experienced other web hosts who promise something similar, but it seems like they exclude specific technical issues like “A-Record propagation” or downtime in general. In short, I’ve never experienced downtime with GreenGeeks.
11. Bonus: There’s a 30-day money back guarantee
Above, I promised to add an additional reason for why you should consider GreenGeeks. Well, here it is!
GreenGeeks offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked. BAM!
I’m mentioning this because no service is perfect, but GreenGeeks comes pretty darn close! I’ve experienced the good and bad with different website hosts when my site(s) were down, or something else wasn’t working. However, before switching to GreenGeeks, I was hesitant.
Let’s be real; nobody wants to change hosts unless there is an on-going problem. Plus, it’s scary when you don’t know how to change everything over and are nervous about losing data. However, GreenGeeks was very reassuring, and their 30-day money back policy is what sold me. (Being eco-friendly helped too!)
And guess what? I don’t regret it to this day!
